Makerspace Lab Usage Policies for Students
1. Access and Reservation Policy
Reservations Required: Students must reserve equipment and workspace in advance using the designated booking system on our website. No walk-in usage is allowed.
Access Hours: Access to the Makerspace is limited to posted hours, during which staff will be available. Hours are subject to change with notice.
2. Mandatory Training
Training Requirement: Prior to equipment use, students must complete a mandatory training session to ensure they understand the proper use and safety procedures for the equipment.
3. Supervision and Assistance
Continuous Supervision: Staff members or trained assistants will be present at all times for supervision and support.
Active Assistance: Students are encouraged to seek help if they have any doubts regarding equipment usage.
4. Equipment Use and Safety
Intended Use: Equipment must be used strictly for its designated purpose, as outlined in the training.
Safety Gear Compliance: Safety gear is mandatory and must be worn as instructed for specific equipment.
Immediate Reporting: Report any malfunctions or damage to equipment immediately to the staff.
5. Respectful Behaviour and Conduct
Respect and Responsibility: Respect towards other users, staff, and equipment is imperative.
Workspace Maintenance: Each user is responsible for cleaning their workspace and equipment after use.
Restricted Food and Drink: Eating or drinking is only allowed in designated areas.
6. Penalties for Misuse and Damage
Accountability for Damages: Students are responsible for any damage or misuse of equipment.
Enforced Penalties: Penalties may include fines, suspension of Makerspace privileges, or other academic repercussions.
7. Upcoming Installation of Surveillance Cameras
Future Monitoring Plans: We are in the process of installing Smart IP Cameras in the lab. This is a forthcoming enhancement aimed at ensuring safety and policy compliance.
Notification of Activation: Students will be notified when the cameras become operational. From that point forward, all activities within the lab will be monitored for safety and adherence to lab policies.
8. Intellectual Property and Data Security
Ownership of Creations: Students maintain intellectual property rights of their work, adhering to college policies.
No Storage of Personal Data: Personal projects or data should not be stored on Makerspace computers.
9. Policy Updates and Compliance
Adherence to Updates: These policies may be revised periodically. Students are responsible for keeping themselves updated.
Mandatory Compliance: Adherence to these policies is compulsory. Non-compliance will lead to disciplinary action.
